  1. I enjoyed this book-makes you think about how we humans can be so cruel to others- especially the weak and defenseless- I worked at Melmark in the early 70's and many children were placed there by their parents because dr.'s told them there was no hope- lucky for them their parents were wealthy and they received schooling and wonderful care in spite of "no hope"

  3. Finished this a week or so ago and I really enjoyed it. We didn't talk too much about this book at our meeting so I thought I'd post my thoughts here. I found the story compelling and it was interesting to ponder what the thought process of some of the characters with disabilities might be. It must have been difficult to write from that point of view. Of course, the happy ending is unlikely in the "real world" but I found myself hoping throughout the book that the ending would bring the different characters back together in the way that it did.
